Pixaera partnered with Shell to implement immersive Virtual Reality (VR) safety training, aligning with the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP)'s 9 Life-Saving Rules. The collaboration aims to enhance safety protocols across Shell’s global operations by providing trainees with hyper-realistic, data-tracked learning experiences.
The Challenge
Why Traditional Training Wasn’t Enough
In high-risk industries like oil and gas, traditional safety training methods often fall short in engagement and effectiveness. Shell sought a solution that would not only comply with IOGP’s safety standards but also provide realistic, hands-on training experiences to prepare their workforce better and fail safely.
Though Shell had already experience VR training prior to working with us, Pixaera's high quality, realism, and overall deployment and method really stood out.
The Solution
Pixaera’s VR training modules offer immersive simulations that allow employees to experience hazardous scenarios in a controlled, risk-free environment. This approach enables workers to practice safety protocols and decision-making skills, leading to improved knowledge retention and engagement.
Like Wrobleski explains “Historically, we've really been focused on preventing all injuries within Shell. […] We call that goal zero. While we continue to focus on really reducing the likelihood of any injuries, we are really starting to focus more on serious injuries and fatalities”. Ideally, employees can develop essential skills and the company help promote a zero-incident safety culture.
A Safer, More Confident Workforce
Since adopting Pixaera’s VR training, Shell has reported overwhelmingly positive feedback from employees. The realistic simulations have made safety training more engaging, leading to better preparedness and a stronger safety culture within the organization.
feel safer from fail safely and learning from their own mistakes
saw improvement in spotting unsafe acts and hazards and knowing how to intervene
felt fully engaged throughout the immersive training experience
You learn best when you are allowed to do something and try something, rather than being told about something - that's a lightbulb that switched on in my mind. Pixaera enables our frontline teams to do that, allowing them to fail safely.
